To excel in your KCSE, you must do adequate and effective revision. These tips will assist you.

Read only after you have tried to recall main ideas contained in the material you are revising (The SQ3R strategy is also applicable in revising, apply it.)

As you analyze past papers find out their format, what is the difference between paper one and paper two? What is the difference between the different parts? Also as you analyze the past papers find out which questions have appeared with the greatest frequency .

Try to focus on which ones might come this time. But still do not ignore any area. Remember, an area which is not popular in exams might be tested one day, as long as it is still in the syllabus.

One must get clearly the subject matter of a question-the issue or the area that you are being tested on.

1. Close to the examination (The last week).    This is time to skim through your revision notes. You can also check previous year’s papers to find the topics that are often tested.

2. The night before: Put together your pencils, pens, eraser, ruler, calculator etc. Do not cram new information.
Get normal sleep before the examination. One should compose himself/herself to fight anxiety. You can wake up for dawn if you are used to.

3. Morning of the exam
Wake up to avoid rushing. You can read for a short awhile. Do not discuss the exam before going to the hall because there are always people who think they know what is in the exam paper and can lead you to panic.

4. In the examination:

Read all instructions very carefully. Make sure you notice questions that are compulsory. You have to do these to get marks. Answer the correct number of those and from the correct sections. Divide your time: For longer questions, do not spent so long over one or two questions that you run out of time and cannot answer the others .Leave time for checking .Read through your answers and make corrections.
